Welcome to the new episode of Science Out of Scrap from News In Science, where we simply create models to explain science principles made out of scrap.
Today, we will learn about what is potential energy and we will create a working model to explain how potential energy works. To make the model we need around cardboard piece and a string. We have to make 2 holes in the cardboard like shown in the video and pass the string through it. Now we will hold this and spin it our hands. The cardboard starts to spin and it will endlessly as long as we like.
Though this video explanation now we have a clear definition of potential energy. When we spin the model at first, we provide the model with potential energy which then converts into kinetic energy and back to potential energy. This explains to us how energy changes from one form to another. Elastic potential energy. There are many such potential energy examples available in our surroundings.
In older times, clocks didn’t run on batteries. We had to provide potential energy to the spring so the clock could function for a day, and then we had to repeat the process. This is also a great example of potential energy. We can even create a unique model. You must remember the VIBGYOR model from our last video. We can color the cardboard with 7 strips of VIBGYOR and when we spin it, we will see the color white. This could be used to explain 2 science principles in one model.

पुराने समय में, घड़िया बैटरी पर नहीं चलती थी, बल्कि उनको चाबी देनी होती थी| इसमें भी हम स्थितिज ऊर्जा का इस्तेमाल कर रहे है क्युकी चाबी देकर हम उससे ऊर्जा दे रहे है जो गतिज ऊर्जा में बदलकर घडी को चलाती थी| आपको हमारा VIBGYOR मॉडल याद होगा, उस मॉडल की तरह हम इस मॉडल में भी चकरी में 7 रंग भरके सफ़ेद रंग देख सकते है, इस एक मॉडल के ज़रिये हम विज्ञान के 2 मुश्किल सिद्धांत आसानी से समझ सकते है|
