World Malaria Report 2019 has been released by the World Health Organization. According to the report a total of 228 million malaria cases have been reported worldwide. In this report, about 4,35,000 people die. That is, malaria is no less deadly than cancer and this is the campaign against malaria worldwide.
On 4 December, the World Health Organization released the World Malaria Report 2019 in Geneva, which looks better in India’s situation. India reported a 41 percent decrease in cases of malaria deaths as compared to 2017.
According to the report, for the first time in India, the malaria mortality rate has been recorded below 10 thousand. In 2018 there were 6,737,000 cases of malaria in India. In which 9,620 people died. While 9,34,000 cases were reported in 2017 and 16,310 people died. Experts say the difficulties and the danger is still high but it is expected that India will soon be free from malaria.
The WHO’s campaign Malaria No Mor aims to completely eradicate malaria from 2015 to 2030 in about 35 countries, one of which is also India. The state of Odisha in India has emerged as a successful model to reach this goal wherein 2017-18, there has been a 90 percent decrease in malaria cases.
Asha workers went door-to-door to make people aware of malaria. Now, efforts are being made to repeat this success across India in collaboration with UNICEF. The Government of India has set a target to end malaria by the year 2030.
